counselling

I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and my practice is in West London. I believe the aim of all therapies is to assist clients in finding meaningful and lasting alternatives to whatever is troubling them—to facilitate change. My role as a counsellor is to accompany you as you look at your life and what is troubling you. People may enter into counselling because they have a need to find greater fulfilment in their lives; I believe counselling facilitates the journey of self-discovery they embark upon.

For many people, the decision to seek counselling or therapy may come from a need to resolve current life stresses or sometimes more longstanding issues. Each counselling session provides a safe space for you to talk to someone who is trained to really listen; someone who will try always to understand, without judgement or agenda.

“In every therapeutic orientation people can be helped. They are able to feel more comfortable within themselves. Their behaviour changes, often in the direction of a better adjustment. Their personalities seem different, both to themselves and to others who know them.” — Carl Rogers, 1951

As a Person–Centred Counsellor, I will help you look at and work through the issues that are concerning you. I do not direct you; the Person–Centred approach is based on the belief that each us has the ability to live our lives to their full potential.

Person–centred Counselling was developed between the 1950's and 1980's by the American psychologist Carl Rogers. Rogers realised that self directed change would follow from a client's experience of a certain type of relationship. This relationship is characterised by genuineness, non-judgemental acceptance, caring and empathy.

I believe counselling can help you understand difficult experiences, feelings and behaviour. As a counsellor my aim is to support you and ‘walk alongside’ you. Having the opportunity to think and talk about your difficulties in a reflective way can not only bring a sense of relief, but also help you to make meaningful changes to your life and relationships.

During the first session we will be able to talk about the practicalities of working together, such as how often we would meet, and how long the sessions would last. Most of my clients come for one hour, once a week. Some prefer to come for shorter or longer sessions, more or less frequently, I am happy to be flexible, the only priority is that your needs are met. I believe it is important that after meeting and talking together you should feel comfortable and at ease, and we both feel we are able to work together.

Each client's situation is unique and specific to them. However, some of the issues I work with include:
