counselling faq

I believe counselling can make a real difference to people’s lives. Counselling creates a safe space for you to talk to a person trained to really listen without judgement, or criticism, someone who will ‘walk alongside you’ on your journey.

what is counselling?

I believe counselling helps you to look at problems or difficulties you are facing in your life. People may enter into counselling because they have a need to find greater fulfilment in their lives; they are seeking change. Counselling facilitates the journey of self-discovery they embark upon. The process can be one of transformation: ‘from fixity to flowingness’ (Carl Rogers 1961)

how does counselling help?

Counselling offers you a different relationship from any other, it is one that allows you to look at your problems and enables you to discover and explore your ‘real self’. It is an opportunity for you to be listened to in a way you have possibly not experienced before. The counselling relationship creates a non-judgemental space for you to look at any issues in your life that are troubling you. A counsellor will work with you to find your own answers and ultimately reach your own goal.

how often do i see you?

I usually see clients on a weekly basis, although this can be altered to suit an individual client’s needs. Each session lasts for 60 minutes and costs £45.00 (individuals) or £60.00 (couples). I also offer a limited number of lower-cost places dependent upon circumstances.

how long does it take?

That is a difficult question to answer, because it will depend on the issues that you bring, each of us are unique and need our own time and space to explore the issues that are troubling us. I do believe that you will know yourself when you have reached the end of your journey. We will be able to review the sessions as we go along, so that you have an awareness of ‘where you are’ and what you are achieving.

what is the best way to get in contact?

To make an appointment or simply to ask any questions, you can send an email to edith@west-london-therapy.co.uk, or ring me on 0208 993 7683 or 0771 890 8549. If I am not able to answer your call, please leave a message, I know this can sometimes be a real nuisance, but I do return all calls as promptly as possible. Once we have talked, you may decide to come along for an initial session, we will be able to meet, talk further and you will have the chance to find out if you are comfortable with me and the way I work.
